SVMS News

 

 

·         Wednesday Early Release Reminder: At the request of local merchants and law enforcement, we are reminding all SVMS parents to ensure that your children are not congregating at the local shopping centers on Wednesday afternoons unless accompanied and supervised by a parent.  As great as our kids are, large numbers of unsupervised pre-teens create a nuisance for local merchants and community members.  Thank you for your cooperation and attendance to this restriction!

 

 

 

·         Summer Enrichment  Program Deadline Extended!:  Enrollment still open…..See Registration Card and Course Descriptions (attached) for information about IUSD Summer Enrichment options for middle school students.

 

·         8th Grade Dance Party…”Black Out & Bling”

 

Party date:  Tuesday, June 16

Time:  6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Location:  PAB at Sierra Vista

Dress:  Casual – Wear white to glow under the black lights – Follow school dress code

 

·         PROMOTION INFORMATION: 

In order to avoid possible conflicts with high school graduations or K-6 promotion activities, the SVMS promotion activities will occur on Thursday, June 18, at 8:30 am. The Ceremony will be held on the blacktop at Sierra Vista Middle School.  The schedule for the day is:

*      8:15 am         Students arrive at school, go to Advisement (T.A.)

*      8:30 am         Promotion Ceremony on fields.

*      9:30 am         Picture-taking opportunity and parent/student/teacher farewell after ceremony.  Students also receive Promotion

                                               Certificate at this time. Students may leave with parents when done.

  

You may also want to know:

*      We suggest parents bring lawn chairs/and or blankets on which to sit; this will be an informal promotion activity with audience seating on the grass.  There will be chairs for students only.

*      Students should be dressed neatly and appropriately for 13-14 year olds with nice but not overly formal clothing (no tuxes). Boys should wear a collared shirt and slacks or nice pants (ties optional).  Girls may wear a dress (no strapless, spaghetti straps, or backless dresses) or a blouse with slacks or a skirt.  No high heels please- students will be walking on the grass.

*      The school dress code applies to all school activities, including the 8th Grade Dance Party, Awards Night, & Promotion.

 

·         8th Graders interested in High School Athletics:  please see attached document for important information about Health Screening.

2009 IPSF Dream Raffle

The Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) recently launched their 6th Annual Dream Raffle! This year, the grand prize is $500,000 cash!! There are also over 75 other cash prizes and a brand new Prius to give away!

The odds of winning are excellent as no more than 15,000 tickets will be sold!  Now is the time to get your tickets.  The raffle hotline is 949-734-6873 and is open Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.

All proceeds support health services and education, innovative teaching, afterschool programs and the needs in our middle and high schools.  This fundraiser has generated millions of dollars over the last three years thanks to your support!

IPSF Fundraising: Matching funds from the City of Irvine are available until JUNE 1, 2009, so we need to do all we can this month to complete this $900,000 matching grant.  We still need to raise $34,000, and with the help of the community, WE CAN DO IT!!  For details click above or see attached flier…
