Welcome to the summer reading page!
The websites below are by Teri Lesesne, PhD -- she is the authority in Young Adult literature. I have heard her speak and cannot recommend her highly enough. Please browse both sites for reviews and recommendations.
Website #1: http://www.freewebs.com/professornana/index.htm
This website has two annual lists of recommended reading, one for tweens and one for teens. The teen list will include more difficult reading, including slightly more mature content, deeper themes, etc. Some incoming 6th graders may prefer the tween list instead. She publishes a new list every year, so please feel free to browse previous lists as well. The older lists will have books that are now in paperback -- saves a little money!
Website #2: http://professornana.livejournal.com/
This website has Dr. Lesesne's current book reviews. She updates it constantly. You can also check the archives for less recent publications. She reviews books for elementary and secondary students so parents may be able to find reading for their younger children as well.
Have a great summer! Remember, summer reading is about enjoyment, not school. Please choose books that interest you. If a book hasn't caught your interest by page 50, it may not be the book for you. Read a couple pages at the book store or library before you bring the book home to gage your interest.
Have a wonderful summer,
Mrs. Ralston |
